Patient sought improvement in nasal profile at initial consultation. During the computer imaging consultation with Dr. Shah, patient was informed by Dr. Shah of the importance of deemphasizing the nasal tip and nostrils. The nostrils were found to be retracted (nostril edge lifted up) and this was improved with a variety of techniques. Dr. Shah recently published a scientific paper describing surgical correction of nostril retraction. The patient's columella was also found to be lower than ideal and was lifted slightly to decrease the "bottom heaviness" of the nose. Dr. Shah uses a projection neutral technique here (keeps projection similar as preoperative level) while still defining the nasal tip. In addition, he is able to raise the columella without making the nose look too "short" or in otherwards (overly rotated). Controlling the nasal tip, while aligning the nasal profile can help create a more feminine nose which can improve facial appearance, sometimes making the face look more "athletic" yet still overtly female in this case.
