Persian Nose and Long Nose
This patient disliked her nose and felt it overwhelmed her facial features. She was seeking a nose which was more feminine and attractive in shape. The challenge in her case is to add structure and support to her nose, keep her nose narrow and ensure that the overall look is natural. A limitation was balancing the thickness of her soft tissue envelope (thick skin) with the overall size of her nose. Her case was performed with an open rhinoplasty technique based on the shape of her lower lateral cartilages. In every rhinoplasty case performed, every detail is critical such as precision in setting the exact nasal tip projection, tip size, dorsal height, etc. At the 6 month mark, her nose demonstrates some improvement from her preoperative pictures in shape, size and form.
For me it is important to find out a patient's ethnic background to help see how a person identifies him or herself. Patients of Persian background actually have quite a broad range in aesthetic tastes which tend to differ by individual. Some patients prefer to maintain a longer nose with a higher profile, while others may prefer a shorter nose and more stylized appearance. Computer imaging is critical to see which type of changes will lead to a mutual aesthetic between myself and the patient. In this case, the patient preferred a shorter nose with some height to her bridge due to being petite in stature.
