Through science, innovation and pure curiosity, society has seen great advances in the medical field since the beginning of civilization – and the world of facial plastics is no different. As medical professionals, the drive to learn more and strive to improve upon the ways in which they deliver care is a desire that never truly wanes.
Dr. Anil Shah, MD FACS has had a passion for advancing facial plastics and the techniques used since his early school days. The Chicago-based surgeon believes in asking, ‘what steps can I take in advancing this technique?’. This question is what has driven Dr. Shah to work almost exclusively with cutting edge technology such as the Piezo ultrasonic tool versus the traditional hammer techniques, for example.
The world of medicine is one in a constant state of change – continuously moving and pushing the boundaries and limits of what has been previously imaged. One of the greatest catalysts of innovation is when the medical community shares ideas. Dr. Shah believes in the power of community and this past week joined plastic surgeons from around the country in Washington D.C for the renowned International Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons Conference.
, such as what is now known as “the Five Layer Neck” technique which can be seen on the surgeon’s Instagram and Tiktok pages. Dr. Shah’s Five Layer Neck technique is innovative because it addresses five layers of the neck that traditional neck liposuction does not. During the well attended presentation, Dr. Shah also discussed his preferred technique of ultrasonic rhinoplasty. He specifically noted his affinity for the groundbreaking Piezo tool, citing it gives him more control and precision than traditional tools. Dr. Shah is in the 1 percentile of surgeons who perform more than 400 rhinoplasties a year. He is constantly finding new ways to make patients breathe better, look better and ultimately feel better.
The University of Chicago graduate has a practice that stands proudly in Downtown Chicago serving not only the community of Illinois but patients from around the World. Dr. Shah’s new techniques, tools, and forward-thinking philosophy is not only what inspired his AAFPRS presentation, but what also inspires him daily at his own practice.
Dr. Shah has attended the International Symposium of Facial Plastic Surgery for years and looks forward to the next conference to continue the grand tradition of learning, sharing and innovating in the facial plastics community.
