Middle Eastern Rhinoplasty في منطقة الشرق الأوسط Rhinoplasty
Middle Eastern noses may have thicker more sebaceous skin, ptotic or drooping tip, wider nasal tip and a dorsal hump. The goal of rhinoplasty for any ethnicity is to improve the appearance of the nose so that the rest of the face is more attractive. Some patients of Middle Eastern origin will complain that their nose is a dominant portion of their face and desire it to be featured less. Interestingly, the structure of each nose can be quite different and depends on the stiffness of the lower lateral cartilages and thickness of soft tissue. The soft tissue envelope of the nose must be accounted for. In some patients of Middle Eastern origin, there is a thicker subcutaneous layer where actual fat is present. Removal of the fat can help provide definition to the nasal tip. Every patient will have a different aesthetic here.
It is not possible to identify an entire region with one type of nose. Instead, there is a range of noses found within this area. The Middle East, including Dubai, Saudia Arabia, Persia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan have various customs and aesthetics which patients find desirable. Even two patients of a similar background may want a very different look depending on which part of the country they live in. For example, a Persian patient in Los Angeles may have a very different opinion about his/her nose than one living in New York. The key here is to understand what are each patient’s goals and what look they are trying to avoid, which is usually the overly obvious rhinoplasty.

Does Dr. Shah understand my aesthetic?
During the consultation, Dr. Shah uses a variety of maneuvers to help him learn what a patient likes and doesn’t like about their nose. He has extensive experience working with Middle Eastern noses and has patients who seek his expertise from afar for his approach. If during the consultation a patient does not feel comfortable with the approach recommended or morphs provided, Dr. Shah does not recommend surgery for them.
